High School High Tech Career Shadowing Day-April 23, 2012
The High School High Tech Program at Port St Joe High School sponsored by Dyslexia Research Institute and partially funded through the ABLE Trust and Vocational Rehabilitation is having a Career Shadowing Day on April 23 from 8:30 to noon. We have 19 High School High Tech students who want to find out more about career opportunities that they have an interest in. These students have been in the program all year learning about job opportunities, how to be a good employee, etc. and need some of our businesses and professionals in Port St Joe to allow them to follow them for a morning to find out what these jobs actually require. We would appreciate Chamber Members and business leaders in our community taking a morning to spend some time with these young people. If you would like to become involved, please contact the Program Director, Juanice Griffin at jgriffin957@gmail.com or 850-229-6140
These students accumulate points for been involved in community service, participation, citizenship, to earn refurbished laptop computers and eight have already qualified. This accumulation of points also allows them an opportunity for a paid summer internship this summer. We are anticipating needing 15-18 internship locations at this time. For many it will be the first time they have had a chance to be employed and learn how to become a productive citizen in our County. High School High Tech also needs businesses to consider becoming involved in the internship program this summer. Juanice Griffin would be monitoring the students weekly and working with the employers to insure a positive work experience for the young people. Fairpoint Communications, the Bridges, Humane Society of Gulf County, North Florida Child Development, Gulf County, CVS Pharmacy, and many other businesses have been involved in providing the learning experience over the last few summers.
Please consider becoming involved with these young people—they are our future. |
