Bay Day
We want to let you know about our upcoming event - the St. Joseph Bay Buffer and Aquatic Preserve Day (or Bay Day for short) on October 6th. There will be a Low Country Shrimp Boil and a whole series of guided field trips all day highlighting the incredible St. Joseph Bay Aquatic Preserve and the Buffer Preserve

Kim Wren and Jamie Luten from the Aquatic Preserve will be giving boat tours of the Aquatic Preserve and wading/snorkeling trips to the seagrass beds in the Bay. Jean Huffman will be giving riding tours of the backcountry of the Buffer Preserve to see the beautiful response of wildflowers to our recent burns and Rosalyn Kilcollins will be giving her “Reading the Woods” program. Expert birders Alan Knothe and Seth Blitch will be taking birding trips to the Buffer Preserve, Deal Tract and Cape San Blas. Alan will also do his popular astronomy program after dark. It is a great opportunity to really see some of the many different aspects of these most exceptional Preserves – and, of course, all proceeds go to benefit the Preserves. We need volunteers to help out on October 6th – if you are able to help out please call 922-1797 and leave a message - we will return your call.
You may notice that October 6th is the time of the year that we have had the Florida Panhandle Birding and Wildflower Festival in the past. This year we didn’t have enough volunteer help to successfully pull off such a large and planning-intensive event. The Birding Festival is a much appreciated event – but it takes a lot of work! If you would like to see it happen next year and you are willing to help make it happen please let us know because planning will have to start soon if there is going to be a Birding Festival in 2008.
So, please come out and support (and enjoy) the Preserves (and the food!) on October 6th!
